First day of the Summer break of school-
Alas- I spent it listening to questions that didn't pertain to me. Entertaining nevertheless. The best part was coming home for lunch and to see Henry. Bad day for playing the piano for me. My hands weren't focused. House issues as usual lol- the hot water heater is leaking. Maybe it's time for one of those tankless ones. Whatever. I practiced the Chopin Etude in Ab Major tonight- the "Aeolian Harp" which is a tricky but suer pretty treat no doubt. I had forgotten how it demands that the pianist keep that melody floating over the wallowing below. Lovely stuff. The Prelude for Sunday. I practiced of course Rachmaninoff's Moment Musicaux #6. I think for Sunday's postlude that I will cut out two middle pages. People get antsy and bored and are dying to chit chat and talk during that time anyway. Had a major frustrating rehearsal with the Wildman (Willy Mattes sp?))"Swedish Rhapsody" tres campy- seems like it'd be less awkward in an orchestra. The piano version lacks a lot. Also looked at: Schulz-Evler's "Concert Arabesques on the Beautiful Blue Danube" or whatever long-ass ridiculous multi-syllable claptrap that you want to call it. It's hard. Plain and Simple. Sciarrino: "Anamorfosi"- super tricky and super delicious and crowd pleasing. An interesting day for sure.
